My approach to assessment is individualised, with careful consideration of the person’s background, needs and the purpose of the assessment. The aim is to provide meaningful insight that can guide future planning and support.

School Readiness Assessments

Starting school is an important developmental milestone. School readiness assessments explore aspects of a young child’s development that may influence their transition into formal schooling.

The findings can help parents better understand their child’s strengths, developmental needs and areas where additional support or stimulation may be beneficial.

Psycho-Educational Assessments

Psycho-educational assessments can provide a more comprehensive understanding of a learner’s cognitive functioning, learning profile and educational support needs.

Where appropriate, I collaborate with psychology professionals to facilitate access to suitable assessment services and support a clearer understanding of the learner’s needs. The aim is to help parents and relevant professionals make informed decisions about educational planning and possible interventions.

My experience within the educational support system and professional collaboration with relevant WCED district support structures also allows me to assist families in understanding the educational support process. Familiarity with the SIAS (Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support) process can help guide families through the relevant procedures and consideration of appropriate educational support.

Choosing school subjects can be challenging when learners are uncertain about their strengths, interests or future plans.

Subject choice guidance helps learners explore their abilities, interests and preferences to make more informed decisions about subject selection and possible future study pathways.

Career Guidance

Career guidance supports individuals who are exploring career options, considering further study or re-evaluating their professional direction.

Depending on the individual’s needs, the process may explore interests, aptitudes, abilities and personal preferences to help identify potential career pathways and support informed future planning.

The Assessment Process

The process begins with a discussion about the reason for the assessment and the questions that need to be explored. Appropriate assessment methods are selected according to the individual’s needs and the purpose of the referral.

Findings are interpreted within the relevant context and discussed with the individual or parent/caregiver, where appropriate. Recommendations may help guide further support, educational planning or referral to other professionals when needed.
