School Readiness Assessments
School readiness describes the preparedness of a child to engage in and benefit from learning experiences. It implies that your child has reached a stage of development where he/she is ready for formal education.

When is my child ready for school?
A child is school-ready when they are able to cope with the formal requirements and demands of schooling.  These requirements are not only intellectual, but includes emotional, perceptual and conceptual skills as well. Although it is legally required for a child to go to school in the year they turn 7, there are cases where a child is not considered to be ready for formal schooling. In these cases, the learner needs to be identified early and the necessary interventions and provisions need to be put in place to aid the child’s optimal development.

The  School Readiness Assessment aims to holistically assess your child’s development in areas such as physical, psycho-motor, social-emotional, behaviour, language, and cognitive domains. This is done to make proper recommendations to better understand and support your child’s readiness to enter primary school.

Psycho-educational assessments
An educational psychological assessment is a formal assessment process that measures skills related to a person or a child’s educational and psychological areas of functioning.

If your child has trouble in the classroom and shows signs of poor concentration, delayed concept development, slow work pace, hyperactivity or is struggling with reading, an educational psychological assessment can help.

These assessments are important tools to assist children and their parents when they may be struggling at school and performing below what they may be capable of. The psycho-educational assessment will be able to assess if a child may have any learning difficulties or educational difficulties and one will be able to see if there are any emotional difficulties that may be influencing your child’s performance.

As a psychometrist I conduct these assessments in collaboration with a registered Educational Psychologist to assist and guide you to the best of our abilities.

Subject choice assessments
Subject Choice Assessments aim to determine which school subjects would be best suited for the individual going to Grade 10.

There are various factors that plays a role in the process of making a successful career choice. One of the first considerations are realistic and informed subject choices for Grades 10 to Grade 12. Making the correct subject choices in Grade 9 is vital to achieving academic success and to be able to pursue your future career. With the Subject Choice Assessments learners will be assisted to choose the most suitable subjects for Grade 10 based on their abilities, interests, personality and values. This is an important step in the adolescent’s life for shaping their career.

Career Guidance Assessments
Career Guidance Assessments helps individuals understand how a variety of personal attributes impact their potential success and satisfaction with different career options and work environments.

This assessment is geared at Grade 11 or Grade 12 students who are unsure of which career path to follow or those who want a better understanding of what to study. It involves a cognitive component with the personality and interests tests to get a better understanding of the student’s ability level.

The assessments help to improve a student’s self-knowledge, enables them to explore their self-development and career options and it also facilitates an informed career choice/future career plan decision.
